Mr. Sonny Resetti (リセットさん, Risetto-san, Mr. Reset), also known as just Resetti, is a mole that appears in all the Animal Crossing series games. His name is a pun on the word "Reset," which is what causes him to appear. His job is to make sure the player saves the game. The more the player resets the game without saving, the angrier he gets, eventually reaching the point where he forces the player to perform a number of irrational, absurd actions, such as reciting specific lines word by word. Resetting the game too many times will lead to a "fake" reset. After the player resets many times in Animal Crossing: Wild World, Mr. Resetti will talk about his cousin Vicious Vole Vinnie. His first name is revealed to be "Sonny" in Animal Crossing and Animal Crossing: City Folk by his calmer older brother, Don.
Appearances
Animal Crossing
- "Resetting... It's like... pressing an emergency call button. You press it and I gotta come read you the riot act. See?"
- — Mr. Resetti, Animal Crossing
Resetti's role in Animal Crossing stays the same throughout the whole series, but one of the main differences in this game is that he tells the player "Thanks for buying Animal Crossing!" and breaks the fourth wall. As aforementioned, he appears when the GameCube resets or is turned off without saving. After resetting, he appears outside the player's house, and gives a lecture on why saving is important. Resetting constantly will lead to him forcing the player to repeat lines of text to remind them about the importance of saving. Sometimes his brother Don will appear.
Animal Crossing: Wild World
- "If you're gonna quit, you gotta SAVE first! Use your head, punk! It's even written in the manual!"
- — Mr. Resetti, Animal Crossing: Wild World
- "... You hate me, don't you? I mean, you just hate me more than anything, right? More than laundry, traffic jams an' bad breath all rolled together, right?"
- — Mr. Resetti, Animal Crossing: Wild World
In Wild World, he plays the same role as in the GameCube game. Resetti can also be seen in The Roost of the Museum on Sundays between 2:30 P.M. and 4:00 P.M., drinking coffee with a relaxed, calm attitude. If the player strikes up a conversation with him he will talk calmly about his work, apparently friendly while not on the job. In this game, he never mentions the "resetting", as none of the DS units have a Reset button; instead he says "save the game".
Animal Crossing: City Folk
- "Uh, yeah, so anyway, this is Animal Crossing: City Folk. Thanks for pickin' it up. Appreciate the support. So, on behalf of everyone at Nintendo, I... Uh... Yeah... So... I mean, I, uh...Oh FORGET ABOUT IT!"
- — Mr. Resetti, Animal Crossing: City Folk
His role in City Folk stays the same as in previous games, but he can now be encountered in a new area in the City, called the Resetti Surveillance Centre, with his older brother occasionally making an appearance at the venue. This appears when, on a random day, going to the city after 8:00 P.M., and going to the right of the City near the tunnel where he may give the player a Silver Shovel to leave the area. Afterwards, he appears the second time the game is accessed by the same player, to talk about the importance of saving, regardless of whether or not the game has been turned off with or without saving. This is the only time he will appear by the player's house for something positive.

Mr. Resetti
Description | A mole wearing a hard hat who'll show up when you restart your game without having saved. He pops up and lets you know in no certain terms the importance of saving your game. The problem is, his speeches are entertaining enough to warrant breaking the rules at least once.

Mr. Resetti (Feet)
Description | A monster that normally appears from underground to terrorize players. However, he is not always mean or underground--in Animal Crossing: Wild World, he can be found sipping coffee at The Roost if you go at a certain time on a certain day. In the Japanese-only "e+" version, he works at a so-called "Resetti Observation Center" where you can pop in for a visit.

Mr. Resetti
Description | NTSC-U: Be sure to save your game before you turn it off, or this guy will show up screaming "AAAAAAAARGH!" Sonny Resetti and his favorite brother, Don, keep an eye out for sudden game resets, and they aren't shy about reminding you to save often. Best not to aggravate them needlessly... PAL: Forget to save your game before stopping for the day? "GRRAAAAH!" You're going to hear from Mr. Resetti! He and his brother, Don, keep an eye out for reckless resetting and give you a, er...gentle reminder not to. Tempted to "forget" so you can meet them again? Don't. Just don't.

Mario Kart 8
Mr. Resetti appears as a course obstacle on the Animal Crossing track in the DLC pack Animal Crossing X Mario Kart 8. He is found near the course's finish line, randomly popping out of the ground to impede racers, similar to Monty Moles, common enemies from the Mario series who also act as hazards in Mario Kart 8. If players run into him, they flip, which stuns them and causes them to lose speed. He does not appear in the winter version of the stage.
Controversy
Parental Guidance in European Manuals
The European Animal Crossing: Let's Go To The City instruction manual states that Mr. Resetti may be frightening and/or disturbing to young children.
"Information for parents - Mr. Resetti
It is important that players save before switching off the Wii console in order to retain data after each play session (see Saving Data, above). If players switch off without saving, the character Mr. Resetti may appear upon restarting.
Mr. Resetti's purpose is to teach players the importance of saving. However, parents should be aware that his personality and tone of voice, while intentionally humourous, are authoritative and may be disturbing to young children."
Iwata Asks: Animal Crossing: New Leaf Interview
In the "Iwata Asks: Animal Crossing New Leaf" interview session, the directors of the game admitted that Mr. Resetti was disturbing to children and sometimes made young girls who were playing cry. Thus, they made the decision to lay off Mr. Resetti and have the option to include him back at the player's discretion.[1]
