Donating to the museum[edit]

As with all bugs and fish in the Animal Crossing series, the golden trout can be donated to the museum by talking to Blathers, the curator, who will follow the donation with some information.

In New Horizons[edit]

When donating to Blathers or selecting "Tell me about this!" in New Horizons, he will provide the following information about the fish:

"The golden trout is a beautifully colored fish that can only live in very clean waters. They are difficult to come across since they are found only in high mountain streams. As a side note, I find it much easier to appreciate fish that aren't such prima donnas about everything."

The golden trout can be found in the top waterfall tank in the freshwater fish room with the cherry salmon.

Real-world information[edit]

A real-life California Golden Trout.

The California golden trout, or simply the golden trout (Oncorhynchus aguabonita), is a species of trout native to California. The golden trout is native to Golden Trout Creek (tributary to the Kern River), Volcano Creek (tributary to Golden Trout Creek), and the South Fork Kern River above Lake Isabella in the southern Sierra Nevada. It is the state fish of California.

The California golden trout is closely related to two rainbow trout subspecies. The Little Kern golden trout (O. m. whitei), found in the Little Kern River basin, and the Kern River rainbow trout (O. m. gilberti), found in the Kern River system. Together, these three trout form what is sometimes referred to as the "golden trout complex". More information on this topic is available at Wikipedia.
